PolyJet materials in 3D printing – 3D ACTIVATION

The PolyJet materials undoubtedly offer a wide range of possible applications. An important advantage is the possibility of printing in different shore hardnesses. At the same time, PolyJet materials offer a number of other advantages, such as very smooth surfaces or the option of transparent components.

We would therefore like to give you a brief overview of the potential of PolyJet materials at this point.

The PolyJet process in brief

First, however, we would like to describe the procedure to you. In PolyJet printing, a liquid, photosensitive photopolymer applied to a printing plate using a print head. This print head contains a UV light source, which immediately hardens the material in exactly the desired structure.

The properties of PolyJet materials

One of the most interesting properties of PolyJet materials is their ability to form parts translucent (i.e. translucent), and at the same time to print in different shades.

Another advantage of PolyJet materials is that they are completely different shore hardness, which are possible in this material group. The palette ranges from A27 (very elastic) to A95 (very firm).

The PolyJet printing process also means that the models produced in this way have very smooth surfaces. Even very fine details on the surfaces can be reproduced.

For the same reason, the PolyJet process also offers the unique possibility of printing both very thin wall thicknesses and ultra-thin layers.

New Mixtures

Also not to be underestimated is the PolyJet process’s ability to mix different materials (resin) in a single printing process. From the resulting acrylates and methacrylates models with very different properties emerge.

Simulated Properties

A special feature of such material mixtures are the so-called simulated properties. This means polymers that develop properties such as ABS or PLA through appropriate mixtures and additions. In this way, the advantages of both material groups can be combined.

application areas

The properties of the PolyJet materials are as diverse as their possible applications. These include almost all areas of modern manufacturing, from medicine to electronics, the automotive industry, aircraft and aerospace, art or architecture to jewelry production.
