How do configurations work in Solidworks?

To create a configuration, you specify a name and properties, then you modify the model to create the design variations you want. In part documents, configurations allow you to create families of parts with different dimensions, features, and properties, including custom properties.

What does configuration mean in Solidworks?

Configurations allow you to create multiple variations of a part or assembly model within a single document. Configurations provide a convenient way to develop and manage families of models with different dimensions, components, or other parameters.

How do I add multiple configurations in Solidworks?

We access the Configuration Table by right clicking on a dimension or feature and choosing “Configure Dimension” or “Configure Feature”. The resulting window that launches allows us to quickly create additional configurations and specify values for this dimension for the new configurations.

What is a part configuration?

A part configuration is essentially a baseline containing all the part versions in an assembly part structure used to assemble a part instance. The part configuration information page is a collection point for information related to the part configuration.

How do I edit a parameter in Solidworks?

In the Modify Configurations dialog box, you can add, delete, and unconfigure parameters and edit parameter values. To configure additional parameters from the same feature, click in the feature’s column header, select parameters from the list, and click in a blank area of the dialog box.

How do you save different configurations in Solidworks?

In order to easily save this configuration into a new part in SOLIDWORKS 2020 and newer, I’ll go to the ConfigurationManager, right mouse click on the configuration I want to save (it doesn’t have to be the active configuration), and select Save Configurations… (as shown below).

How do I use collision detection in Solidworks?

To detect collisions as you move or rotate components: Click Move Component or Rotate Component (Assembly toolbar). In the PropertyManager, under Options, select Collision Detection. If the component you are moving touches any other component in the assembly, the collision is detected.

How much RAM do I need for SOLIDWORKS?

While the exact amount of RAM you need is going to depend on your particular models, Solidworks generally needs between 4-8GB of RAM for tasks such as rotating models, simulations, and renders. Due to this, we recommend having 16GB in your system to give you plenty of free RAM for other programs you may have running.

Is Core i5 good for SOLIDWORKS?

At a minimum, start with the Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5; these CPUs are perfect for simple parts, assemblies and drawings. If you’re working on large assemblies and/or geometrically complex parts you may want to move up to a Core i7 or Ryzen 7 for a mid-range workstation.

Is i5 enough for SOLIDWORKS?

Creo will work fine without any issues using UHD620 – i5, i7 processors with other apps closed. AutoCAD all versions works very fine with Intel’s UHD620 graphics with 8GB RAM laptop. SolidWorks will only simple models in UHD620 but once you go heavier, the laptop will suffer.

What is design table SOLIDWORKS?

A design table allows you to build multiple configurations of parts or assemblies by specifying parameters in an embedded Microsoft Excel worksheet. The design table is saved in the model document and is not linked to the original Excel file.

What is a suppressed feature?

When you suppress a feature, it is removed from the model (but not deleted). The feature disappears from the model view and is shown in gray in the FeatureManager design tree. If the feature has child features, the child features are also suppressed.

How do you stop a thread in Solidworks?
