If you’re an industrial designer, then March 5, 2017 is your day!
The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) will celebrate National Industrial Design Day with the relaunch of its popular “What Is ID?” awareness section on its website and a robust social media push. March 5, 2015 marked the first-ever National Industrial Design Day, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the group. It has since grown from 600 members in 1950 to thousands of members worldwide.
“Industrial design touches all of us every day in countless ways whether it is represented in the cars we drive, the houses we live in or the medical devices that save lives. Despite the closeness of industrial design to our lives, most people do not draw the connection between industrial design and the products created by the profession,” says IDSA Executive Director Daniel Martinage, CAE. “National Industrial Design Day focuses on the huge contributions made by industrial designers to our economy and to the greater good. Lend your voice and effort to helping the profession shine brightly on March 5 and throughout the year.”
IDSA is encouraging industrial designers to embrace the day with community awareness. A few of the suggestions include: host an open house; bring your children to work; host a shadow day with local students; launch a new product; partner with a local school or Girl or Boy Scout Troop for a talk on industrial design in action.
National Industrial Design Day will also have a huge social media presence with #Design Day. However you choose to celebrate, be sure to share your work and enthusiasm for industrial design!
