What do I have to consider if I want to upload my desired 3D model to 3D Activation?

At 3D Activation, we aim to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you to get your printed 3D model. Therefore, you do not need any finished 3D files with us, as our experts can easily convert them from yours 2D files (photos or drawings) can generate.

Regardless of whether you already have finished 3D files or whether you want 3D models from drawings or photos: In both cases you can easily upload the files you want for 3D printing using our contact form. Simply click on “Select file” in the contact form and upload the files you want to print. You will then receive an email from our customer service within 24 hours informing you of the next steps.

Checklist for your 3D files

If you would like to modulate your 3D models yourself, we would like to draw your attention to a few points that you should bear in mind.

1.) The 3D files would need fully closed (=”waterproof”).

2.) Open areas or edges are to be avoided.

3.) A high number of polygons is required for 3D models with smooth surfaces.

4.) A 3D surface object is to be defined as a triangular or square mesh.

5.) Partial bodies must also be completely closed. However, these can easily be “plugged” into the actual 3D model.

6.) The minimum wall thickness depends primarily on the desired material. It ranges from 0.3 mm in metal 3D printing to 2 mm in ColorJet printing with polymer gypsum as in FDB printing with PMMA plastic or quartz sand.

Of course, before printing, we check every 3D model.

If you have problems revising or repairing your 3D model, our graphic designers will be happy to help you. Depending on the effort required for this, we would have to charge you a surcharge of 39€ or 50CHF per hour.

What file formats are supported by 3D Activation?

Without any additional effort, we can support the following 3D file formats:

VRML2/97 (*.wrl), *.3DS, *.ply, *.obj, *.stl, *.zpr, *.stp, *.dxf, *.asc, *.igs, *.model, * .prt, *.X_t, *.exp, *.CATPart etc. We can convert numerous other 3D formats without any problems.

If you want a multicolored 3D model, we need your textures in a ZIP or RAR file.
