Metal print with HC Starck Amperprint®

Experience the new metal printing tool Amperprint® by H.C. Starck

A few days ago, Goslar-based metalworker HC Starck announced the launch of its new tool, which will be used to produce 3D print models from the finest metal dust. Under the name of AMPERPRINT® a large number of metals are available to interested customers there, from nickel to cobalt to ferrous alloys, suitable for specific applications in the field of metal processing as well as for medical implants. It is also crucial that the metals are available in different degrees of pulverization, which further increases the range of possible applications.

New ways of comparing materials and technologies

The result is impressive testimony to the range of 3D printing applications that specialists from various industries are already working with today. What particularly stands out is the new possibility of printing from identical materials with – depending on the degree of grinding of the powder – different properties in processing and the end product, which in particular impressively expands the possible uses for prototypes and final production.

In addition, it is theoretically possible in this way to print components with mechanically identical properties using different technologies. This creates the opportunity for the first time to directly compare specific advantages and disadvantages of individual 3D printing technologies and to evaluate them for future applications.

Leading manufacturers set the direction

HC Starck also has 40 years of experience in “traditional” metallurgy and can therefore serve as a further example of the development of classic industrial companies discovering additive manufacturing and developing it further for their industry-specific purposes. Clearly, as more industry leaders in the field of materials science embrace metal 3D printing, more manufacturers will embrace the technology now that they can be confident of getting reliable quality.
