IHK lecture on 3D printing technologies

3D-Activation presents itself at IHK event and gives TV interview about 3D printing technologies

Under the programmatic title of 3D printing technologies “3D printing – how we will produce tomorrow – perspectives in the age of Industry 4.0” (IHK invitation 3D printing), the IHK Heilbronn-Franken held on November 14, 2014, between 10 a.m. and 3.30 p.m., in the House of Industry there, an information day with application examples on questions relating to the topic and the lecture on 3D printers. In numerous lectures by well-known experts from research and practice, the around 130 participants informed themselves about the latest developments in the world of rapid prototyping. There was also the opportunity at this event to experience 3D printers on site and in action.

The main focus of this 3D printing theme day was on the question of the potential of the various 3D printing technologies (such as FDM 3D printing), for example for the Just-in-time production of spare parts based on 3D files (so-called CAD files). The increasing importance of 3D printers, especially in the fields of medical technology and aircraft construction, was discussed.

3D Activation gives lecture on 3D printing technologies

Fabian Strohschein, Managing Director of 3D Activation GmbH from Wiesbaden and Thun/Switzerland, gave an interview to the online magazine “TV Aktuell” on the occasion of the IHK theme day 3D printing, which was broadcast on the same day. In this interview, Strohschein explained how 3D printing technologies work as layering process, in which the 3D print models are printed from bottom to top. 3D Activation presented practical application examples of 3D printing technologies at the IHK day, and these were also illustrated live in the exhibition area.

In addition to 3D Activation, the 3D printing service from the Hessian state capital of Wiesbaden, numerous innovative companies from the fields of automotive engineering, aircraft construction, medical technology and toolmaking were represented at the IHK 3D Printing Day, which are already using 3D printing technologies for their production areas . Thanks to industrial 3D printing technology, high-quality components have already been produced there, sometimes since the 1990s without the use of tools manufactured, that is, primarily, without milling and welding.

3D printing technologies in the context of Industry 4.0

The IHK Heilbronn-Franken, which represents one of the 12 spatial planning regions of Baden-Württemberg, explicitly placed the topic of 3D printing technologies in the context of Industry 4.0. This term, which comes from a future project by the federal government and industry, was communicated to the public for the first time in 2011 as part of the Hanover Fair (April 4-8, 2011) and is intended to fourth industrial revolution, after steam engine, assembly line/electrification and computer. In this context, the term “Internet of Things” is sometimes used, since wireless networking of all sensors with the Internet is a prerequisite for Industry 4.0. In October 2012, the then federal government received the first concrete recommendations from the Industry 4.0 working group, and six months later, on April 14, 2013, that Industry 4.0 working group presented its final report, again at the Hanover Fair.

The spread of 3D printing technologies is also closely linked to the emergence of the Industry 4.0 concept. This finally made leaps and bounds in 2011-13, not least with the Patent expiry related to the FDM 3D printing technology 2012, which made it possible to offer 3D printers with this rapid prototyping technology at a significantly lower price.
