Christmas 3D Printing Ideas – 3D Activation CH

Every year the lovely Christmas season comes into the world. And every year we at the 3D Activation use this opportunity to show you, using suitable examples, the importance of 3D printing in the context of Christmas. In 2021 we would like to continue this beautiful tradition at this point.

Christmas village from the FDM printer

A Canadian service provider has therefore decided to make a miniature village with Christmas motifs available for download in the form of 3D printing templates. An FDM printer is required for this, as is common in home user 3D printing, whereby the use of white PLA is recommended. Inside this “village”, i.e. especially in the miniature houses, users can then attach LED lights to make the Christmas village shine in bright colors. A large number of models are available for the 3D printing of the houses, so that the Christmas village can be designed according to individual wishes. In addition, the responsible designer regularly publishes updates to give users the opportunity to expand the village again and again. These are then made available for download.

The nutcracker from the 3D printer

The nutcracker is also commonly regarded as the epitome of German Christmas romance, at least insofar as it is in the form of a male figure. In 1850, in the middle of the industrialization age, the first serial model of a nutcracker was invented in Germany. The inspiration for the inventor was not least the story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by ETA Hoffmann (1776 – 1822), which also contributed significantly to the popularity of the nutcracker.

3D printing also opens up completely new possibilities for the production of nutcrackers for original one-off production or small series at economically justifiable conditions. The individual parts of the nutcracker are created on the 3D printer, made of plastic, in different colors, which are later assembled.

3D printed Christmas tree decorations

Different types of decorations for the Christmas tree can be individually designed using a CAD program and then printed out on a 3D printer.

An example of this is a Christmas tree star, i.e. a star for the top of the Christmas tree. In the Christian tradition, this jewelry symbolizes the Star of Bethlehem, which led the Magi to the manger where Mary had just given birth to Jesus. Such a Christmas tree star can be produced very well with PLA on an FDM printer. At the same time, such a star is also wonderful to be placed on a table or similar flat surface.
